My time in Bolivia was absolutely unforgettable. I volunteered on several projects, including working on English skills with kids at an orphanage in Santa Cruz, teaching at an after school program in a poverty-stricken area outside the city, and working with kids at an orphanage for kids with mental disabilities. Every moment I had in each program was always met with smiles from the kids, paired with welcoming hugs and laughter. I’m not even a big kids-person, and I fell in love with each and every one of them!
In addition to the projects I worked on, I had a wonderful time with my amazing host family—in fact, it might have even been the highlight of my trip.
It gave me an amazing opportunity to have wonderful people to practice my Spanish with over delicious homemade meals, but most importantly, my house and family simply made me feel like I was home. I loved participating in all sorts of Bolivian cultural events that I would have otherwise missed had it not been for my family! I love, love, loved every minute of it, and still wish I was there, an entire year later!
