Project Summary: This project involves working with an editorial organization that addresses issues surrounding culture and tourism in Bolivia. The center's published materials are mainly distributed to students at schools and Universities in order to inform them about current events and issues that pertain to their local culture and tourism. The center also produces box and label designs for an import business. This project is ideal for those who are looking to enhance their particular skills within a media environment. We have volunteering positions for photographers, graphic designers and general researchers.
This project needs international volunteer resources in order to have a more comprehensive and global perspective on issues that evolve around tourism and culture in Bolivia. Volunteers placed in this project will also provide specific skills valuable to the project.
Apart from the specialized skills required for one or more of the above positions, volunteers placed in the media center project should possess an intermediate level of Spanish language and have an interest in the culture and the tourism industry in Bolivia. You will spend a large part of your volunteering time conducting research, writing articles and interviewing and interacting with people from different Bolivian communities.
Although this project requires Intermediate Spanish language, participants are still entitled to their Spanish language provision included in their program fee.
Volunteers who have a basic level of Spanish but are professionally trained in any of the above job titles can take an intensive language program to raise their level of Spanish language before placement at the media centre
There are several positions in this project and placements in this project will involve:
Researching: Several topics are on hold to be researched. Volunteers will have the opportunity to travel around Bolivia and interview people from different Bolivian communities while they learn about their culture.
Photography: volunteers will have the opportunity to travel and photograph matter that is relevant to the editorial.
Graphic Design: Volunteers will have the opportunity to design and edit visual material (catalogues, boxes, artwork, marketing material etc) by hand and or digitally, using a range of Adobe and Macromedia software for the publication.
Marketing: Learning and enhancing your marketing skills by promoting the publication and other products and materials created by the media centre.
Volunteers are also encouraged to contribute to the development of the project with any ideas and suggestions. This project is ideal for people who have the required training, for people who would like to learn such skills or for people who have or are already trained in any of the above professions but lack hands-on experience.
As a volunteer on this project you will be working 4- 5 hours per day Monday to Friday. Evenings and weekends will be your free time. Please see activities & excursions for things to do during your free periods.
The center has only 2 digital cameras available at the editorial, so the availability of more cameras is welcomed. Also the use or donation of any licensed graphic design software and materials would be helpful as well.
