Program Volunteer Costa Rica
Project: Volunteer in Building and Constructing Homes in Costa Rica
We had a great weekend off and were all anxious to start our work on Monday.
What an amazing week this has been . Twelve representatives from my university came to volunteer in Costa Rica for our spring break. When we arrived to Costa Rica, Nella greeted and took us to our dorm, known as the "gringo casa". Orientation went smoothly and we got a wonderful tour of the city.
The uVolunteer staff is wonderful. Everyone we met helped us in a huge way.
That night, we were trying to decide what to do the next day. Andrés was a huge help to us and found a canopy tour that we decided to do. We had a great weekend off and were all anxious to start our work on Monday.
When we arrived to the site, we were introduced to the friendly staff and put to work right away. My job was to plaster the new classrooms that were being built. In the afternoon, I got to interact with the children. They read their books to me and I would correct them or help them with a word when needed.
I also had the opportunity to help an older lady that was learning English. Interacting with her was also a complete different experience with the kids because she needed my help a lot more and I could give it to her. After a long day at work, we would come home to an amazing meal prepared by Doņa Isabel. The food here is absolutely amazing. I am allergic to onion so doņa Isabel would prepare a separate meal just for me.
The uVolunteer staff is wonderful. Everyone we met helped us in a huge way. Even the people that were staying at the dorm with us helped, in a enormous way. I am so thankful for the opportunity and could not have for a better spring b
