Program Volunteer Costa Rica
Project: Volunteer in a Childrens Home/Orphanage in Costa Rica
Because privacy was pretty much non-existent in a house with 16 people, we took advantage of our opportunity to make amazing friendships with everyone in the house.
Derek and I had an amazing time together during our time at uVolunteer. It
was definitely interesting to be living in a dorm-style accommodation with
multiple people - sort of college life all over again.

The weeklong trip was absolutely epic! The perfect situation in which to get to know the other volunteers on a deeper level and to see different parts of Costa Rica. Tortuguero had to be my favorite location! It was just sooo different from anywhere else I've ever been.
It also allowed me and Derek to have "guy time" and "girl time" thereby preventing feelings of claustrophobia at sharing every single second with each other.
Volunteering at different projects was definitely something I would recommend to couples. It allowed us to work at something we felt connected with and yet still share a common experience. Derek appreciated the friendships he forged at the construction site and has a new appreciation for gloves and electric tools. I cherished my time with the children at the orphanage and have a huge respect for the tias who work so hard to make the lives of the kids as happy as possible. We both appreciate our experience and feel like our time in Costa Rica was well-spent! It was a great growing experience individually which only benefitted our relationship as a whole.

Tortuguero had to be my favorite location! It was just sooo different from anywhere else I've ever been. A must is eating at Buddha Cafe! It's a nice distraction from the daily rice and beans. Puerto Viejo was not my favorite stop on the trip, but Bread and Chocolate made the trip worthwhile. This restaurant is essential to visit for breakfast, and I heard lunch is pretty good too! Their homemade bagels are delicious!" Give our love to everyone back in San Ramon!
