Although I was nervous to travel alone to a new country, I couldn’t have chosen better.

Project: Volunteer Teaching English in Costa Rica
uVolunteer is an amazing organization that eased the transition.
I really didn’t have to get used to life in a new country because I always felt like I was going home to my dorm family.
I would have greatly improved my Spanish in a home stay, but the friendships I made can’t be measured!
San Ramon, Turrialba, Gandoca, Puerto Viejo, Fortuna, Arenal, Montezuma, Mal Pais, Granada, Manuel Antonio, Quepos, and Sarchi were absolutely amazing places to have spent my volunteer vacation. I feel like I saw the best of the best in my 7 weeks here. The only place I missed was Volcan Poas and I wish I had one last weekend to check that out, but more reason to return to Costa Rica someday.
La Escuela San Rafael is a great place to work. I easily got attached to all the students and love teaching English to them. I have decided to change my career to teach English as a foreign language teacher in another country. I was looking forward to working with a school that was a bit less fortunate; San Rafael has an English teacher and plenty of resources. A native speaker is always helpful, but I do wish I had been able to teach my own English class where they might not have a program. Still, I wouldn’t trade these past 7 weeks for anything.
Now to figure out how to relocate my family and friends to Costa Rica...
