Program Volunteer Costa Rica
Project: Volunteer in Building and Constructing Homes in Costa Rica
A close friend and I then came upon an amazing idea, let’s volunteer in Costa Rica. Upon endless amounts of searching we finally picked a great organization that was affordable, safe and had great volunteer reviews...uVolunteer.
I was able to find a program that worked perfectly for myself. Choosing to do construction with two other friends in San Ramon for six weeks was the best decision I have ever made. This being my first time travelling outside of the US, I had no idea what to expect.
Upon arriving I was greeted immediately by uVolunteer coordinator, Fiorella. Fiorella was informative, kind and helpful in all respects.
Afterwards I was taken to the dorms in San Ramon where I was able to meet the amazing group of individuals I was fortunate enough to live with for the next 6 weeks.
Construction was an experience I will never forget. Although it can be hard work at times, the rewards outweigh everything else. From lifting cement blocks, to sifting dirt to make cement, I was included in all tasks on site. It was such a uplifting experience. The gentlemen we worked alongside, both native Costa Ricans, were warm and friendly to us at all times and eager to learn English as much as we were eager to learn more Spanish!
As for San Ramon, this is an amazing little town to experience and soak up the Costa Rican culture. Its location is ideal for trips to the pacific for surfing, or up north for volcano sights and zip lining. You can also stay home and relax by the local pool or the onsite hammocks during your leisure time. Overall my experiences here in Costa Rica have made me realize how wonderful it is to travel and help others. Before coming here I came across an amazing quote that helped me decide to say yes to my decision to come: ¨The beauty of life is to experience yourself¨, and that is exactly what I have done, experienced myself. I hope this story helps anyone who is having second thoughts about this program and/or Costa Rica. Pura Vida!!!!!!!!
