India, although a poor country, is a work in progress. There are numerous projects in India that are in need of international volunteer assistance and resources. The main purpose of our volunteer India program is to help the development of the Santhal tribal people.
The volunteer project is located in a Santhal tribal village and volunteers will be living in the town of Santiniketan, West Bengal, 9km from the tribal village. The Santhal Tribe is the largest tribal community in India. They are found mainly in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Jharkhand. The Santhal tribes of India have a typical tribal lifestyle, and basic needs are fulfilled by forest trees, plants, fishing and cultivation.
Volunteer English teaching in this tribal village is an experience that will last a lifetime. The program enables you to absorb the fascinating Indian culture whilst sharing your knowledge and skills with the country. The project will provide an unforgettable eye opening experience for a gap year, vacation, spring break or career break for groups and individual travelers.
