In Nepal, we have a uVolunteer representative staff that works to provide a fulfilling and safe volunteer abroad experience. The staff members in Nepal are not only a part of the uVolunteer team, but also natives that can offer advice only known by locals. Like all of our programs, each volunteer will have 24-hour connection with uVolunteer in-country staff.
Salve P. Shakya - Country Coordinator
Born in Manila, Philippines, Salve is a former trade union leader and an advocate for women and children. She received her BA in Management from Manila Central University. She lived and worked in Taiwan for almost 5 years in the management field and has also spent time volunteering with a domestic violence NGO in Taiwan. In Taiwan, Salve met her Nepalese husband, and together they came to reside in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 2003 Salve gained an extensive experience in administrative and program managerial skills while working with INGO volunteering organization based in Nepal. In March 2007 her passion to help others and her experience from her position with INGO, inspired her to launch a volunteer program in Nepal. Her program aims to use volunteer work and tourism funds to alleviate poverty, implement Environmental Awareness and sustainable development. Salve believes fiercely in the amazing power of voluntourism and is dedicated to educational and cultural projects that promote sustainability within Nepal.
Riza Shrestha - Administrative Officer
Riza has extensive travel & work experiences in several countries in East Asia but is presently residing in Nepal. Riza joined the Nepal program in 2008 and plays an important role as an administrative officer. She understands the true meaning of Volunteer Travel and uses her travel and work experience to inform and assist volunteers. She also has genuine interests in environmental sustainability and conservation. Her settlement in Nepal provided her with an enriched understanding of culture and diversity. Riza hopes the people and communities of Nepal will be empowered by the volunteers and sustainable development work of our efforts.
Devendra Shakya - Volunteer Coordinator
Deven plays a very important role by accompanying volunteers to their placement, assuring they are in the right project, and taking care of all their needs. He also ensures that the volunteer’s role is understood by the local Nepali community. In his free time, Deven loves to hike and kayak.
