In Uganda there is a teaching project for volunteers interested in teaching Basic Primary and Secondary Education. The main mission of the project is to improve the standards of education amongst the orphaned and underprivileged children of the Masaka District some of whom may have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS. The children learn Maths, English, Social studies and Science. There are also a number of practical skills programs in music, art and agriculture.
Where will I be volunteering?
The project is located in the Masaka District in the south of Uganda approximately 20 minutes from Masaka town center. The Masaka District is 80 miles from the capital city of Kampala.

What will I be doing?
You will be assisting the teacher will all aspects of the classroom. You may lead your own lesson or help the teacher will the daily lesson plans. Teachers need extra help with pronunciation and the conservational parts of the English language.
What is required to volunteer on this project?
- Language Requirement: Intermediate English
- Must be 18 years or older.
What will my schedule be like?
uVolunteer believes that you should have a well balanced work and play schedule. This means you will only be required to work 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and Friday) for a maximum of 6 hours per day. For the remainder of your time, you will be free to enjoy the vacationing aspects of your trip.

Will I be able to communicate with family and friends?
There are numerous communication centers and internet cafes in Masaka that give you the opportunity to communicate with your friends and family back home. You will also find pay phones dispersed throughout the town which you can use to make local or international calls.
What can I do in my free time?
uVolunteer anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Uganda and all it has to offer.
